INDIVIDUAL & CLUB REGISTRATION

 

  • Clubs must renew team registration online every year. (September 1st)
  • Clubs will renew individual memberships online every year before a wrestler can register in a MYWAY event.
  • No individual membership changes (Club or Region) will be allowed after January 15th.
  • Wrestlers may only register for one MYWAY membership.
  • Wrestlers must wrestle in 2 individual events listed on the MYWAY Schedule page (MYWAY Schedule CLICK HERE) and be a MYWAY member to compete in MYWAY Regional Tournaments.

 

PRE- REGISTRATION

 

 

WEIGH-IN REGULATIONS

 

  • Wrestlers must declare their age group & weight class when pre-registering for an event and enter their actual weight. Your actual weight will determine weight class.
  • MYWAY strongly discourages the cutting of weight by wrestlers and requests that coaches and parents assist us in preventing this practice.
  • An onsite Audit system will be used to randomly check weights. Wrestlers must be within 2 pounds of their declared weight class all day of the event. 
  • Skin checks will be performed before the event to determine if wrestlers have any communicable diseases. The head official has the final say on whether a wrestler may compete in a tournament. 
  • Nails will be checked before the event and must be trimmed.

 

TOURNAMENTS

 

  • A wrestler's age on December 31, 2025, will determine their age group. Proof of age will be required if a wrestler is challenged within the first two rounds of competition. A birth certificate is the only form of validation that will be accepted.
  • During regular season tournaments, wrestlers compete in the following age groups:

                 o 2021-2019

                 o 2018-2017

                 o 2016-2015

                 o 2014-2013

                 o 2012-2011 (2010 must be 8th)

  • All MYWAY tournaments will use the same mat all day pairing method to stage matches. Wrestlers will compete on the same mat for the duration of the tournament. Matches may be moved from one mat to another towards the end of the session, but announcements will be made if this occurs. Online charts will list the match number of each bout.
  • First year wrestlers (regardless of league a wrestler has been a part of) are allowed to compete in MYWAY Novice tournaments.  Beyond first year wrestlers may apply to their regional director for permission to compete in the Novice Division.  Approval must be obtained prior to registration for an event and will be subject to any terms imposed by the regional director.  
  • Wrestlers are required to wear headgear (tape on headgear is prohibited) and a singlet or T-shirt and shorts.

 

  • MYWAY will follow the NFHS rules regarding hair and facial hair.
  • Compression Garments of any type on the legs are legal.
  • All wrestlers, coaches, and fans are required to stay in the stands unless competing or warming up.
  • Two coaches are allowed per wrestler. Any person operating video equipment will be considered one coach. Coaching from the corner is permitted.
    • NO videography from the floor policy. Anyone with a camera MUST be in the stands.
  • All coaches MUST complete all requirements outlined on the MEMWAY website to be matside.
  • Head Pairers have the discretion to combine weight classes in the same age group.
  • In regular season tournaments wrestlers that do not have any other competitors on their chart and cannot be combined with other charts may be bumped up an age group by Head Pairer. Age bump-ups allowed at directors’ discretion (MUST be completed prior to brackets being posted).
  • Wrestlers are allowed a minimum of 20 minutes rest between matches unless waived by Region Director, Head Referee, or Coaches. 

 

  • The NFHS rule concerning maximum matches per day for a competitor is not in effect.
  • Boundary line calls on wrestling surfaces that are less than a full mat will be marked. 
  • All tournament hosts must have a designated medical professional on site. Examples include trainers, EMTs, doctors, nurses, first responders, etc.

 

INDIVIDUAL REGIONAL & STATE TOURNAMENTS

 

  • All Wrestlers will weigh-in for Regionals & State Tournaments
  • Wrestlers are required to wrestle at the regional tournament that their club has been assigned to.
  • High School wrestlers are eligible to compete in MYWAY Individual regional and state tournaments.
  • During the Individual regional and state tournaments wrestlers compete in the following age groups and weights:

                 o 2021-2019: 37, 40, 43, 46, 49, 52, 55, 58, 61, 64, 67, 77, HWT

                 o 2018: 43, 46, 49, 52, 55, 58, 61, 64, 67, 72, 77, 82, 97, 112, HWT

                 o 20167 43, 46, 49, 52, 55, 58, 61, 64, 67, 72, 77, 82, 97, 112, HWT

                 o 2016: 54, 57, 60, 63, 66, 69, 72, 75, 78, 81, 85, 90, 95, 100, 110, 130, 150, HWT

                 o 2015: 54, 57, 60, 63, 66, 69, 72, 75, 78, 81, 85, 90, 95, 100, 110, 130, 150, HWT

                 o 2014: 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 112, 119, 126, 133, 158, 183, HWT

                 o 2013: 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 112, 119, 126, 133, 158, 183, HWT

wrestlers born in 2010 must compete in this group at   regional and state regardless of whether they are in high school

  • HS Divisions must meet the above weights for both MYWAY Regional and State Tournaments.
  • HS Divisions will not wrestle true second matches at MYWAY Regional or State Tournaments
  • Youth Divisions will not wrestle true second matches at MYWAY State Tournament.
  • Youth Divisions are required to wrestle in two MYWAY Individual events in order to compete at the regional tournament. Dual events do NOT count towards this total.
  • Wrestlers in 2021-2019, 2018-2017, 2016-2015, 2014-2013, & 2012-2011 receive a one-pound allowance for the MYWAY State Tournament. No allowance will be given at the Regional Tournaments.
  • Top four wrestlers from each region qualify for the MYWAY State Tournament.
  • Regional weight classes in age groups 2021-2011 (youth) which have 17 or more wrestlers qualify 5 wrestlers for the MYWAY State Tournament.
  • Only wrestlers that reside in Michigan are allowed to wrestle in MYWAY Regional and State Tournaments.
  • All wrestlers including those in HS divisions are required to be MYWAY members to compete in MYWAY tournaments.
  • If a wrestler places at a MYWAY Regional and qualifies for the MYWAY State Tournament but opts out of competing at MYWAY State to go to another wrestling event and compete may be banned from MYWAY for the next season.

 

NATIONAL TEAM

 

  • MYWAY will sponsor the MYWAY state tournaments top four place winners in each weight to NUWAY Nationals.
  • The top 3 placers at MYWAY State Tournament will receive a singlet.

 

DUAL TEAM TOURNAMENTS

 

  • School Based Divisions – Teams must consist of wrestlers that are school based and are enrolled in Elementary or Middle Schools that enters students into the same/one high school. Home School or Parochial students are also eligible but must reside in the boundaries of the teams’ high school district. Club Directors will be responsible for ensuring these teams and the schools they attend meet the standards of eligibility. Teams will be required to show documentation signed by the school at each event.
    • A very easy simple process to type up a letter with your School Based Wrestlers listed and have it signed by the Principal or Stamped with the School Seal by the Office Secretary. *List any potential team students from your school as validation they are eligible for school team youth MYWAY School Team duals.

    • 2015&U (10U): 46,49,52,56,60,65,70,75,82,92,101,112, HWT
    • 2013&U (12U): 60,65,70,75,80,84,88,92,97,108,120,135, HWT

      • MUST be in Middle School
    • GIRLS K-8th Grade: 58,64,70,76,82,90,98,108,118, 128,138,155, HWT

GENERAL INFORMATION

 

  • MYWAY is a youth Folkstyle wrestling association with the goal of providing opportunities in wrestling for Michigan wrestlers.
  • MYWAY tournaments will follow the rules contained in the NFHS rule book unless noted in this rules document.
  • Wrestlers must compete only in their age group unless noted otherwise above.
  • Wrestlers can compete in only one weight class at a tournament.
  • Match lengths are as follows:
    • 2021-2019: 3 periods – 60 seconds each with no break – disc flip
    • 2018-2017: 3 periods – 60 seconds each with no break – disc flip
    • 2016-2015: 3 periods – 90 seconds each with no break – disc flip
    • 2014-2013: 3 periods – 90 seconds each with no break – disc flip
    • 2012-2011: 3 periods – 90 seconds each with no break – disc flip
    • 2011-2010: 3 periods – 90 seconds each with no break – disc flip
    • 2009-2007: 3 periods – 90 seconds each with no break – disc flip
  • Overtime will follow the NFHS format.
  • Wrestlers, parents, and coaches are expected to behave in accordance with the code of conduct agreed to as part of their registration.  
  • Poor behavior including profanity and abusive language will not be tolerated, and violators will be subject to immediate ejection. 
  • Repeat offenders may be permanently barred from MYWAY events.
  • Any athlete or coach called for a flagrant misconduct during a MYWAY event shall automatically be ejected and suspended for the next week of competition.
    • If the regional director believes the offense to warrant additional discipline, the regional director shall submit a recommendation of what further discipline it believes is warranted to the executive board.


 

  • Notice will be sent by email to the club administrator of the offending coach or wrestler stating that a flagrant misconduct was called, the offender will miss the next week of competition automatically and that the matter has been referred to the Executive Board for potential further discipline.  
  • Within 7 days of the notice, the offending coach or wrestler may provide written statement(s) and/or any video evidence they would like the Executive Board to consider with respect to further punishment by sending the information to the regional director of the event where the offense took place.
  • The Executive Board shall decide within the time the offending coach or wrestler is suspended regarding any further discipline.  The decision of the Executive Board will be final.
  • Rules may be changed or modified by a majority vote of the MYWAY Executive Board.
